Professions

I have begun to write histories of the professions of SPURRETTs through the ages. As you may know, the Spurrett family history seems rich with publicans, religious orders, soldiers, and fairground folk, which is quite a mix. I was interested in how some of these trades came about, and then how they seem to have propagated through the generations so I am writing some separate pieces on them. Bear with me and material will begin to appear here, but for the meantime:

  • Religious orders: see this link for a description of the interesting life of Anthonie Spurrett and his family at a pivotal point in history for the church in England.
  • Surveyors: see this link for a blog post about Richard and Thomas Spurrett, from Bampton and their rise from poverty to the creation of thriving businesses.
  • Fairground folk: coming soon.
